Greetings from Salt Lake City and Phase 2 Mission

We actually attach to a building on 1st Ave in the Avenues neighborhood. 
It's a simple 6-7 minute walk to temple square and church headquarters.



Just to the right of the temple, there is a great view of the Church Office Building.
We have been told that senior missionaries get deep discounts on meals in the cafeteria of the Church Office Building but we haven't been there yet. 


Spoke with Sister Long, half of the Elder and Sister Long who are the other Senior Missionaries in our ward. They are scheduled to go home to Tracy, California, in November but a couple of months ago, their daughter, Mary, who was serving a Spanish language mission in Tampa, Florida, joined her parents and is serving a Service mission here. She is incredibly busy and serving in a lot of ways. One of her assignments is with the Long's themselves, serving in the churh history department. That group is very busy getting ready for next year's Salt Lake Temple open house. 

Also met Claudia Cannon, another senior missionary. She too is working in church history department. Her husband has a Ph.D. in American history so he's probably a great asset to the department. 

The Office of General Council (OGC), the department we are affiliated with won't have office space for us for maybe a couple of months. That's okay. We are accustomed to working from home.

Mike is working on a BYU Pathway project that involves paid employees with that program in the South America South Area. The Carmack's are missionaries in the Pathway program. They spent a lot of time in Africa before going to Argentina. A couple of months ago, they attended a large BYU Pathway conference in the Phillipines and were financially responsbile for their air fare and hotel while there.

Another great program is English Connect. Missionaries who do not speak English can learn it during their mission time. Right now, I have one active student and I'm continuing to reach to two others to join us. In addition, Sister Moore, whose husband is the South America South area Mental Health advisor, are going home to Mississippi July 8, is turning over her missionaries to me as well. I really love this program. It allows me to teach English but also a little of American culture. It's comical sometimes. The perceptions are so off base. Here is the link to that program too:

One more thing. This morning, walking into church, I noticed this sign. It's very interesting and I'm sure we will notice others as well.

  This is Elder Tim Hansen. Happy New Year!

  One of the many beautiful Nativity scenes we have seen this year. Argentines may not do much to do with Christmas in the lead up but their homes frequently feature the birth of Jesus.  It's been a while since I sent out a blog. I have to be inspired to have something to say. 😅 On January 5, we will be here six months, as missionaries almost seven months. Time flies. The folks leaving the mission in April, three couples, are all starting the process of setting up their lives at home.  Every couple in this group of senior missionaries has an amazing story to tell about how they got here. Many miracles and tender mercies, just like us. We know that we are blessed to be sent here and taken in by these lovely people. They continue to teach and inspire. Added December 30.   Elder and Sister Dube, doctors who received a donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Elder and Sister Renlund, Elder and Sister Eduardo Gavarret Today was a Wow Day.  If you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you probably do not know that members of Quoram of 12 Apostles are assigned various areas across the globe to work with directly. This is a five year assignment. For the past week, Elder Dale G.
