More Adventures in Argentina

This is how we purchase fruits and vegetables at the grocery store.
You get what you want, put it in plastic bags and take them to these scales, weigh it and then put the sticker that the scale produces on the plastic bag.
If you purchase from one of the neighborhood stores,
they usually insist on choosing items for you.

So grateful for Zoom and similar platforms. As missionaries, it is easy to feel out of the loop. Got to watch Grandson, Michael, deliver his homecoming talk in church this morning. He returned from his mission in Salem, Oregon on Wednesday. His talk was so good to see because he is a man now. His sense of humor was delightful. His future is very bright and I look forward to see how he continues to blossom.

Argentina had a holiday on Friday. It’s apparently their version of what used to be Columbus Day. Now it’s Honor Indigenous People’s day. We women senior missionaries got together for lunch. C, one of the sisters, likes to entertain. She made beautiful salads and several others brought fresh vegetables. C even baked a gorgeous chocolate cake. From scratch, no less. These women are special. They are wise, in tune with the spirit, warm and friendly.

Completed a project I was helping with for the Communications Department. It was data entry and I hope I did it right. I had an idea for a new project that has nothing to do with legal or communications and got a very positive reception. I’ll be working on that starting tomorrow. It will be fun to have ownership of a project.

C and her husband, B, spent the weekend in Uruguay. Uruguay had its own 100 year celebration to acknowledge the anniversary of the gospel being preached in South America. It was huge. They sent a video to all of us. It was a beautiful event.

Since the last entry, President Nelson passed away and we had another amazing general conference. To hear President Oaks talk about President Nelson, told us how President Nelson was not the loudest voice in the room when decisions needed to be made, that the lawyers in the quorum of the 12 Apostles had more to say (lawyers love to tell lawyer jokes), it was good to see that President Oaks DOES have a sense of humor.

It was also interesting and a touch disappointing to hear that no new temples would be announced right away. President Nelson had an almost childlike glee every time he announced new temples and to learn that the temple department didn’t always know what President Nelson would be announcing, was precious. In spite of his age, President Nelson had a very quick mind, was fearless and faithful, not allowing obstacles hold him, or the church, back. He will be missed.

The new First Presidency was announced today. However it is constructed, the church will continue to move forward. It’s reminiscent of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream in the book of Daniel in the Old Testament. The visual image of a rock carved out of the mountain without hands that after destroying kingdoms, continues to roll and grow, (in my opinion, that rock is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) is vivid.

Opposition toward the church will continue to grow and thrive but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will keep growing. We all have to be prepared and have strength to do our part.

Love you all! Stay safe!

Mike is much better at weighing the veggies and fruits at the store.
That he speaks Spanish is very helpful.
