Argentina is Lovely

Someone recently said that here in South America, when projects are in the works, there’s no sense of urgency. Things don’t get done quickly. That’s been my experience but definitely not Mike’s. He is still working on the temple project but it will be completed soon and he’s been assigned some contract work, one of his favorite areas of law.

Last week I had an appointment with someone with whom I will be working on the end- of -year history. It’s going to be a cool project and I really like the woman I will be supporting. My style is to jump right in, get organized, and move forward. Well … that style doesn’t work here. The historian is attending meetings the next couple of weeks and we will talk again later in October. I read a report from a previous year and it looks like we are writing an area annual report. Should be fine.

Waiting to hear about the Communications project I will be helping to complete by helping to enter data. But … the information has not yet been completely assembled.

We have welcomed another new couple to our senior missionary ranks. They will be working on the church’s Pathways program, designed to help young people with post high school graduation learning. Once a student completes the three semester program, they can then work on a college degree. The program started nine years ago and over 73,000 students worldwide have been helped so far.

The Gonzalez’s, the people who have so kindly provided transportation every Sunday for church and have answered many of our questions, are going home the first week of November. We have been here almost three months and having someone leave is unsettling. Didn’t expect that but it does make sense because we are all in a country far from home and a new family has been created for us here. It’s special. Unique. Someone leaves and it’s like having a family member leave.

Wrote about the DNI situation last week. It will probably take a month to get it. One couple here have been waiting five months. The wife got hers last week. Still waiting for the husband’s card to arrive.

The group went to dinner last Saturday night. The restaurant is called Kansas. Yes. They serve American food. There are six locations in Buenos Aires. Food and service were both good and we got two meals out of our entrees. Mike had the ribs and really enjoyed them. I had Bar-B-Q chicken. Both were good. This restaurant serves a traditional Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving (just another day for Argentines) but the person who told me about it was there last year and the food wasn’t that great. We will see.

It goes without saying that we miss everyone and love everyone. We are blessed to be here and grateful for your support.
