Crazy week. It was pretty much centered around getting a DNI (Documental Nacional de Identidad). Although I wrote about it before, steps 2 and 3 were a long drive followed with more waiting in an office building. 

Here’s the deal. People really are willing to give up some rights to be “secure”. As I have written before, when you’re on someone else’s turf, you play the game their way so we get the DNI. It’s a conscious choice on my part, much like when I had to choose to get vaccinated to help my brother several years ago who was in the hospital at the height of Covid.

 

However, if I could choose, I would not do it. There are a lot of CCTV cameras all over Buenos Aires. Don’t even notice them anymore. It’s creepy just knowing the cameras exist. 

 

The other thing about the DNI is that you never know how long it takes to get it. Once the paperwork is done, you can be told it will be here in a month but don’t count it. Some of the people serving here applied months ago and still no DNI. Some couples actually have one of them receive their card very quickly and the other continues to wait. Isn’t national government wonderful?

 

We had taken a long car drive the previous weekend and then being in a car a lot this time was exhausting. The folks who escorted us through this part of the process were both very kind and certainly knew their stuff. 

 

In the process of working on a project, I met someone who, it appears, doesn’t know how to harness their ambition and work ethic. Just my opinion. There’s always more to the story. When I asked others about this person, since I am new, and hadn’t heard the name before, I knew others could help. One of my friends said, “just avoid them”. Well … I am taking a different approach. I am reaching out to this person and offering to coach them to help them reach their goals. Since I have spent the better part of 20 years coaching, I think I can help.

Happy New Year!

  One of the many beautiful Nativity scenes we have seen this year. Argentines may not do much to do with Christmas in the lead up but their homes frequently feature the birth of Jesus.  It's been a while since I sent out a blog. I have to be inspired to have something to say. 😅 On January 5, we will be here six months, as missionaries almost seven months. Time flies. The folks leaving the mission in April, three couples, are all starting the process of setting up their lives at home.  Every couple in this group of senior missionaries has an amazing story to tell about how they got here.   Elder and Sister Dube, doctors who received a donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Elder and Sister Renlund, Elder and Sister Eduardo Gavarret Today was a Wow Day.  If you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you probably do not know that members of Quoram of 12 Apostles are assigned various areas across the globe to work with directly. This is a five year assignment. For the past week, Elder Dale G.
